Chapter 13: The book will be in an actual store

This Book is in Stores

It just got real. After a long, incredibly interesting talk with someone at Boswell Books, it’s clear that the book will find its way on a shelf. Somewhere. It’s also clear that someone in the near future will move copies of the book to the most prominent position in the store while no one is looking.

That makes me wonder … what would it take to get the book in Barnes & Noble in Wisconsin? I’m going to find out and get back to you.

Jeff plugged my book …

Now I will plug Jeff. That doesn’t sound right. Either way, check out his site here. You can also buy his book, Threatened Species, in digital format by clicking here.

An Ode to Newpages

A link to this blog is now on Newpages.com. The editor emailed me with an apology for taking so long to reply to my request. I got news for you, Newpages: you don’t ever have to apologize to anyone. You’re motherfucking Newpages. You’re the bright light at the end of the literary tunnel. You’re the website that literally makes thousands of writers’ lives a little more bearable.

An example: a while back, I had a short story published in Gargoyle Magazine. A copy was reviewed on Newpages.com and it received a good review. This is a small thing that probably seemed inconsequential to a non-writer who spends his/her life cerebrally shitting while they watch the newest episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. But for a writer who spent hours upon hours trying to craft a story that might actually have some meaning for those who read it, this little review was a verification of a time-consuming, emotional trial.

Where do we go to search for publishers? Where do we read the most up-to-date journal reviews? Where do we read about goings-on in the publishing and writing world? Newpages. Without Newpages, this literary world would be a darker place. Embrace the site. Write something nice about the people who run it. And support them if you see an opportunity.

About grendelguy

Some years ago I made the mistake of deciding to become an author. I literally chose to dedicate hours per day to writing stories no one will read, editing stories no one will read, and sending out stories no one will read to publishers who most often reject me offhand.
